And They're Off!


   
April 22 marked the beginning of spring/summer tours for several BYU performing groups. Below are introductions of each of the groups with a summary of their upcoming tour plans. We'll send more updates while on tour.

   
   

   
   

BYU Singers - England and Wales
On April 22 the BYU Singers left for their three-week tour of England and Wales. Unique opportunities await the Singers, with 15 scheduled concerts to be performed in venues ranging from prestigious university halls to ancient cathedrals. A special repertoire, prepared specifically for this tour, will showcase the diverse cultural and historical music that shaped the United States of America.
   


Young Ambassadors - South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland
For the first time since 1998, the Young Ambassadors will return to Southern Africa for a three-week performance tour of their show Harmony: The Music of Life. Through song and dance, the Young Ambassadors' show captures the small joys of life. Educational highlights from the tour will include workshops with students of Market Theatre, and the University of Johannesburg along with cultural exchanges at the Durban University and Cape Town's Stellenbosh University Performing Arts Studio.
   

   

Wind Symphony - Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France
In preparation for their exciting three-week tour, the Wind Symphony has prepared a program to feature famous works by American and European composers including John Philip Sousa, Johann Strauss Sr., and Leonard Bernstein. While on tour, the Wind Symphony has been invited to participate in the Netherlands Liberation Day and Freiberg, Germany's 850th anniversary celebration. Other performance stops include Lille, France; the historic De Doelen concert venue in Rotterdam, Netherlands; Ghent, Belgium; and Hamburg, Berlin, and Dortmund in Germany.
   


International Folk Dance Ensemble - New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas
This year the International Folk Dance Ensemble will take its renowned show, The Gathering, to Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Each member of the folk dance team has been carefully selected through an extensive audition process in order to join this tour. In The Gathering, dances from countries such as Israel, Romania, Ireland, India, and the United States showcase a spectacle of traditional music and dance, featuring exquisite costuming and stunning choreography. Stops on the Texas tour include the cities of El Paso, Midland, Dallas, Houston, and Laredo.
   


Ballroom Dance Company - Nauvoo
Audience favorites included in the Ballroom show Capture the Magic will be danced nightly during a two-week tour. From June 5- 16 the Ballroom Dance Company will present performances in cities throughout Illinois including Carthage, Quincy, Springfield, and Nauvoo. In each city, the Ballroom Dance Company will be able to share their talents while learning about each of the historical sites they visit.
   


Living Legends - Nauvoo
The Living Legends recently returned from a mid-semester tour to Southern California. This June, the group will travel to Nauvoo delighting audiences of all ages. From June 19-30 the group will take to the stage performing their show Seasons which tells the story of an ancient father who is led by the Great Spirit to a land of bounty and promise. The group will also make stops in Carthage, Keokuk, and Springfield and will have the opportunity to learn about the rich heritage of each of these destinations.
   


Contemporary Dance Theatre - India
Equipped with an eight-foot trampoline, benches, and mattresses, Contemporary Dance Theatre will travel July 21-August 11, to India to perform The Rhythm of Life. The show explores the rhythm of the world interpreted through dance and music-from the simple rhythm of a heartbeat to the rhythm of the street. The group last traveled to India in 2001. Stops on the tour include Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Delhi.
