he eight BYU groups that will perform at the BYU Spectacular in China have begun leaving for China! The tour will celebrate 40 years since BYU’s first performing arts tour in China in 1979.
Today, the BYU Chamber Orchestra flew out to begin the tour. The orchestra will lead off with a separate performance at the premier music university in China, the Central Conservatory of Music.
After the arrival of the other seven groups, the Spectacular performances will begin in Beijing at the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center. The tour group will perform there for two days. After Beijing, the BYU group will head to Xi’an in central China and perform at the Shaanxi Grand Opera House. The group will then head east for their final two performances, which will take place at Shanghai Culture Square.
The BYU groups will also take time to sightsee around China’s many famous sites, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, the Terracotta Army site, the Jade Buddha Temple, Yuyuan Garden, and the Shanghai Museum.
