BYU Chamber Orchestra Honors Australia Day with New “Man from Snowy River”

For Chamber Orchestra, the summer of 2025 was a season to remember. After months of rehearsals, students traveled to the other side of the Earth to share their music with the beautiful country of Australia.
From the very first conversations in planning the Australian tour, Chamber Orchestra knew that they wanted to pay tribute to the music from The Man from Snowy River. A cornerstone of national folklore, literature, and film, The Man from Snowy River represents the rugged spirit of the Australian countryside that Chamber Orchestra came to love on tour.
While touring, the ensemble was able to visit “Craig’s Hut” atop Mt. Stirling in the Australian countryside to film a music video for their Man from Snowy River medley. The video features sweeping landscape shots of the original film set, and musicians playing their instruments as the wind breezes through their hair, capturing the natural beauty that characterized the whole tour.
Now, almost a year later, this music video is an offering of thanks from the orchestra, and they felt that Australia Day would be a fitting release for this video. They share their love for present-day Australia while also paying respect to the natural beauty of the land and the Indigenous Australians who inhabited the land long before British colonization.
