BYU Men’s Chorus Releases New Rendition of “Welcome Home” by Andrea Christensen Brett

New single and music video highlight message of belonging and eternal reunion

BYU Men’s Chorus has released a new single and music video for the hymn “Welcome Home.” The piece was written by Andrea Christensen Brett and arranged by Brent Wells. It shares a simple, sincere message about returning home and being welcomed with open arms.

The new hymn was written in early 2017, shortly after Brett visited her son’s college songwriting class. Hearing students share original hymns inspired her to challenge herself to write one as well, something she hadn’t done since her days as a music student nearly 40 years earlier.

Just days later, while attending church with her husband’s parents, she and her husband were warmly greeted outside the building by a man, who stood in the snow with arms outstretched and called out:

“Welcome! Welcome to the true Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! Welcome home!”

The following January, Brett and her family sang Welcome Home at her father’s funeral, reflecting on the belief that he was being welcomed into his heavenly home. In her own words, she wrote:

“This hymn expresses my testimony that someday, when I return to heaven, I will be reunited with my earthly parents, my heavenly parents, and beloved family and friends. They will be there with open arms to greet me.”

“Welcome Home” was performed by the BYU Men’s Chorus during a campus devotional featuring Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf. Their heartfelt and beautifully sung rendition of the hymn, arranged by Brent Wells, was included in the program. The music video, filmed and aired by BYUtv as part of the event, is now available to watch on YouTube with their permission. The single is also available on all major streaming platforms.
