Travel from Utah to China is officially underway for the BYU Spectacular tour. The BYU Chamber Orchestra arrived in Beijing on Saturday evening, and the following night BYU International Folk Dance Ensemble and administrative members landed. By midweek the remaining groups will have arrived, and then the full BYU Spectacular cast will finish making final preparations for their performances in Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai.
Within their first few days, the Chamber Orchestra toured the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Tiananmen Square, the National Museum of China, and the Nanluoguxiang area, which has buildings that date from 1271 CE. The orchestra members eagerly anticipate working with China’s Central Conservatory of Music this coming week. The Folk Dancers are also anticipating their upcoming exchange of dance and music with Minzu University of China.
