The BYU Wind Symphony proudly announces the release of Latin Dances, the ensemble’s first album under the direction of Shawn Smith. This vibrant collection features eight tracks that explore a variety of dance styles from across Latin America, with music from Cuba, Argentina, and Brazil. Listeners will experience the region’s rich cultural rhythms and melodies throughout the album.
A standout feature is the debut of three original compositions from Brazil, presented for the first time in the United States. These pieces, widely popular among Brazilian bands, bring a distinctive flair to the collection. Over the past 15 years, Director Shawn Smith has conducted extensively in Central and South America, cultivating a deep love and appreciation for Latin music—one he now shares through this project.
With Latin Dances, the BYU Wind Symphony not only highlights its remarkable talent but also aims to foster greater appreciation for Latin music. Reflecting on the release, Shawn Smith said, “I could not be more proud of the superb playing by the Wind Symphony. "Amarraditos": The Song that Secured BYU Singers’ a Win
The BYU Singers have released a new single and music video featuring a fresh arrangement of “Amarraditos” by Ernesto Herrera. The original song was created by one of the most famous voices in Spain and Latin America, María Dolores Fernández Pradera.
This release highlights the Singers’ recent tour to Cork, Ireland, where this song helped them win first place at the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition during the Cork International Choral Festival.
The music video presents a montage of photos and footage from their tour, providing an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes of performances and unforgettable moments from their time in Ireland.
The song is one of lovers going hand in hand and being romantically “tied together” as they face the day.
